Treatment Room
Missy’s approach is very structurally integrated. Thinking through how you move and use your body over time and how that use has caused tightness in specific areas in asymmetrical ways, will direct the pressure used to bring you back to balance. The massage will always be customized to your body.
MEDIUM: (90 mins) Your massage could be more therapeutic, designed to make sure your body reaches optimum relaxation and provide movement through your lymphatic and cardiovascular systems moving toxins out of their hiding places while renewing those areas and promoting cleaner energy and deeper rest.
DEEP: (90 mins) Your massage could be designed to go deeper working on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. This will relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. The client will be advised to drink water with electrolytes afterward. Trigger point, myofascial release, and cupping may be used within the session depending on what your body presents.
SPORTS STYLE: (90 mins) Your massage could be to aid your physically demanding lifestyle and/or hobbies. This kind of massage considers the impact of certain activities on specific joints, muscle groups, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissue groups. The conscious focus of sports massage therapy maximizes the benefit of certain massage techniques and supports further physical exertion and activity. An initial assessment is used to create a specially informed massage therapy plan that will meet each individual athlete’s specific needs. It’s wise to wear athletic clothing to these appointments so we can have the option of assisted stretching before we start. (Belts and zippers as well as tight, stiff clothing can get in the way and be uncomfortable)
FOCUS WORK: (70 minutes) If you would like less integrative work because you have a specific problem in one or two areas of your body, you can schedule a focus work massage. This massage is helpful for issues like plantar fascitis, sciatica, acute lower back pain, shoulder injuries, headaches, etc. Pressure is variable with consideration to your needs.
INSURANCE: (60 mins / Motor Vehicle Accidents) If you have been in a car accident and are seeing a chiropractor who has prescribed you massage sessions, booking this session will help you with any whiplash, sprains, or soreness caused by the accident. Make sure you have all of the insurance information that this session’s intake form requires of you when booking.
🚨 IMPORTANT factors to SHARE with Missy in your INTAKE FORM: People who bruise easily, have Fibromyalgia, autoimmune disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, chemical imbalances, cancer, clients on blood thinners, and clients with altered sensory perception, blood clots, or are pregnant. Specific aftercare for Deep tissue should be followed, 1 Gallon of Water within the 24 hours of your massage (before, immediately after, and the rest of the day) if necessary, a heating pad for 15-20 min, and a mild anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen can help with the after session soreness; you should never need more than your average dose to make it through the next day. The aftereffects of Deep tissue can affect you for up to 3 days, the first day after your session will be the most sensitive with the effects tapering off by the third day. If the effects are severe such as feeling like you are unable to lift or move your limbs, achy all over, or nauseous the next day, your body is having a hard time flushing the toxins, that have been reintroduced to your system, from your body due to dehydration. Make sure you are drinking enough water and are getting enough electrolytes and vitamins to help strengthen your immune system while you flush the toxins from the fat and muscle tissue. A warm soak in Epson salts is strongly recommended when you get home after the service. Most clients feel great after a massage session so if that is true for you, great! Hydration is everything!
Massage at a sporting event
Pre-event massage is a short and specific massage treatment. Pre-event massage stretches and loosens muscles at a vast pace in preparation for activity and optimum performance. Massage aims to raise the body temperature and increase cardiovascular activity. Blood circulation is increased to the muscles reducing tension and allowing them to relax. An athlete can also use pre-event massage for psychological benefits. Emotions related to sports participation can be anxiety, stress, and fatigue. Pre-event massage helps to relax an athlete and mentally prepare them for performance. Massage therapists at Manchester Physio provide massage therapy services pre-event to treat a range of conditions.
Post event A post-event massage is performed after intense training or competition as part of the recovery process. Post-event massage involves the application of a range of massage techniques to assist in recovery from activity. Post-event massage can be performed from 30 minutes up to 48 hours after intense exercise. Post-event massage aims to increase the body's rate of recovery by reducing inflammation in the muscles. Post-event massage also aims to increase vascular and lymphatic activity, aiding the body's natural process of removing waste products after exercise, such as lactic acid. Lactic acid is produced in the muscles during exercise and contributes towards delayed onset muscle soreness, fatigue, and stiffness. By using a range of post-event massage techniques the body can flush out waste products and decrease inflammation, allowing faster recovery and a quicker resumption of training.
